Hi! I'v been reading oc forums for quite a long time and always found needed answers, so u guys r the best))
So, i'v bought new laptop 3 days ago, and want to add 4 more gb ram. Started to look what ram will be better and found that i can choose between 1066 cl7 and 1333 cl9. As far as i understood, cl7 will be abit faster. But i don't want to choose, so the question is:
Can i take for example Kingston HyperX 2x4GB 1600Mhz DDR3 CL9 and manually lower it to 1333mhz, so timings will lower too and it will work faster then 1333 cl9?
And yes, i understand that maybe i won't notice the difference, but still just want do it if it's possible))

You won't be able to change the speed or timings of laptop memory. It'll just run at whatever the BIOS decides to run. In day to day usage, there won't be much of a difference between the two. What CPU do you have? I would open up something like CPU-Z and take a look at the current RAM speed and timings, and just get something that matches that.

Why no? I'v read that it can be done from Windows. My cpu is i7 2670qm.

You may be able to do it from Windows, but most people don't have much luck. If you can, great! But I usually get "regular" RAM for my laptops because the performance difference is very small and they can't be overclocked anyway.

Hmm.. that is not good(
Still want to hear from some1 who tried to do this. And i don't think that it's overclocking, memory will work on lower mhz but with faster timings

Not overclocking, maybe, but configuring. Often the BIOS will recognize SPD timings. But the performance difference is so small that unless you're benchmarking the laptop (which no one I know of does) you won't see the benefit.

I've tried it on a few laptops. I usually find a way to undervolt the CPU, which is worthwhile, and I've tweaked memory timings with memset, but I've found through experience that it's not worth the trouble. It's fine if you'd like to hear more opinions though.

Btw, i have samsung M471B5273DH0, but found only M471B5273DM0 in our shops. Are they different? And is Kingston realy faster?

They look exactly the same to me. I don't know the Samsung part numbers, but my guess is the difference between DH0 and DM0 is probably location of manufacture. I'm seeing DH0 in US shops and DM0 overseas. So it shouldn't matter.

Finally, i got my memory today) But M471B5273DH0 and M471B5273DM0 are not the same, my has 2x more chips. So the one i'v bought is slower or what?

No, just a different memory density in the chips. One is using higher capacity chips than the other. Not a big deal either way.

Btw, windows 7 rated my ram on 7.6, it was 7.5 with 4Gb.

The only difference is what you saw - the physical chip layout. There shouldn't be any kind of difference other than that, though. Performance should be nearly identical and you certainly won't notice a difference in day-to-day use.
