Do you really gain much of anything using a SSD vs mechanical for crunching? I know for benchmarking its helpful, but wasn't aware it's something to look in to for seti etc.

No difference in SETI performance, however, with low end mechanical drives creeping into the same price territory, I went with the smaller capacity, faster drive. Fact is, this drive is cheaper than the cheapest non-refurb magnetic drive on the egg right now ($79.99 for a non-refurb 250GB WD Blue) ... reports are to expect this trend will easily continue well into next year. Fine with me, its lower power consumption will be perfect for these small enclosures.

Yeah, they're creeping down, but how much space do you need for SETI? Couple gigs for a trimmed down copy of linux and a couple hundred megs at most for BOINC and some work units? Don't know how read/write speeds of the drive affect crunching but you could probably run it off a cheap 16gb flash drive if you really wanted to.

I understand........Twas looking at it from the point of view of re-sale.

A 1TB or 2 drive is going to be more sale able in a year or two vs a 250Gb drive......Like i said, just another option.
