A friend bought me this game for my birthday. I installed the game and the patch with no problems. I launch the game with admin rights and the whole PC locks up. I uninstalled the game and patch, reinstalled and tried it again with the same outcome.

I'm running DX11.

What do I do now? :bang head:bang head:bang head

I just loaded the game for the first time since buying it and it is working ok on win7 64bit. It installs directx and punkbuster when first starting. I skipped installing punkbuster since I don't plan on playing multiplayer.

I would say it is likely nvidia drivers. Don't like nvidia drivers anymore since sometimes their newer drivers screw up some other game. Try their newest, if that doesn't work then rollback to a previous version.

The driver installed previously was from evga's website due to exactly what you were saying about nvidia's drivers.

I also tried installing the newest from nvidia's website today and that driver is the 296.10.

I called up a friend and he thinks it could be a ram issue. The game could be accessing a ram bank and the game doesn't like it. He also said to stress test my PC with Prime95 and to also try a different ram slot.

ram issue? 4gb should be enough for a 2009 game. If it might be a ram issue, I'd try out memtest and do a single pass as a quick check. You have your cpu clocked at 3ghz and basically every C2D should hit that with ease.

Decided to look at the forums a bit and there are a few others with the problem of startup crashing. Various solutions.

"If you have ZoneAlarm on your PC (one of the newer versions with the ForceField, just go to the windows task manager and end the process ISWSVC.exe and start the game IMMEDIATELY (shortcut or steam game library). This process comes back after about 2 sec.
If the game starts properly, then you wont have any startup problems until you restart the PC (even though that ISWSVC.exe is back again)."

"Got a solution. It´s a language issue. Just go to your directory of games in the steam client and select preferences on Wolfenstein, then check language options and select english. It works. And don´t worry if you got the game for another region, you should play in your language anyway. "

Also try checking the game cache (I know you just uninstalled and reinstalled). Can also go into the game folder located in your steam->steamapps->common->wolfenstein->redist folder and running vcredist_x86.exe and directx.

Might be a problem with your antivirus or some other service. I remember once I had zonealarm and my downloads were much slower than max. Even disabling it didn't fix it, I had to completely uninstall it.

Try finding some 28X.XX drivers for nvidia and using those.

What my friend explained to me was a possible bad bank. When the game loads it could be hitting that bank and then freezes.

He said to Prime95 and I'm running that test as we speak. I totally forgot about memtest! Good call on that one man! How long do I run that one for?

Not running zone alarm or an anti virus program.

Language issue? I do not see that folder within the Wolfenstein directory.

I'll look into getting a different driver and see what happens.

memtest works well, but I've had an issue where ram was failing and memtest didn't pick it up. I generally just do 1 pass as that'll pick up most problems. More than 1 pass might be needed if you're overclocking the ram to really see if anything is wrong. Though nowadays I just don't overclock the ram since the performance difference is very small.

I won't rule out that your computer is unstable, but I'm betting on it being more of a background program or driver issue. Normally when others have the same issue with the game, it tends to be some little setting or something with certain drivers/programs. The game itself might be buggy, but obviously is playable on Win7 64bit.

I must ask, why are you not running an antivirus? At the very least I would grab a free one. I personally use the free edition of avira, which is highly rated. Then go into settings and turn off all the notifications. You'll still get a few popups here n there, but you'll get used to just clicking it as soon as it pops up. AVG doesn't have those popups, but I have read of a few games having problems with AVG. Normally I'll install AVG for friends/family who don't game and avira for those who do.

I downloaded the newest version of memtest v4.20 and loaded it onto a thumb drive. Made it bootable and ran the complete test like you said with 1 pass and had no errors.

The whole system is running stock. (not overclocked)

I was thinking too that it's something real simple but, to find out the problem will be tough. My friend who bought the game for me, runs it on Windows 7 64 bit and has no problems. I asked him what driver he is using and he doesn't know. He isn't very tech savvy. :bang head:bang head

The AV I use to have installed was AVG. I stay away from porn sites, do not open emails from people I do now know, and avoid suspect websites. However, I do run microsoft essentials.

A friend said to disable the UAC on Win 7 and reinstall. I tried that and that didn't work either. Also, he said to roll back to an other nvidia driver too. I'm running out of options and I may have to format and run Win XP.

Crack can also be the problem with some games. When I installed Skyrim it also didn't want to start. Then I found RAZOR crack and cracked it and now he's working like a charm.

RADIO_ACTIVE:

I tried it in compatibility mode and that didn't work. The whole PC would lock up.

Realee:

I didn't even know about that. Unfortunately, I formatted already. I ended up ditching Win 7 and chose to install Win XP. I'm so use to using Win 7 and now that I'm back using Win XP, I'm so lost! lol

Bandolero:

lol Didn't know that was an option and didn't even think of doing something like that.

Problem is solved. Decided to format using Win XP, installed the newest Nvidia driver, and it's good to go! Running the 296.10 driver from Nvidia.com I should've tried reinstalling Win 7. A fresh install would've fix it? Instead, I went the safer route and did the XP thang...

Thanks for the help guys!!!
