I have shaved with a Merkur 23c for the last two or three years. It just takes some practice and then you'll get it. Don't press too hard.

i try not too, the straight razor i bought has a lightweight carbon fiber handle, the lady that helped me suggested an all metal one, but i liked this one better, price wise.

maybe my angle is off, i dont know if i'm getting the right angle or not.

From what I get from the thread, as Quigsby pointed out, one would need practice, good prep work on the skin, and proper maintenance of the blade for the best shave.

I have two straight razors, a Red Imp and one made in Sweden, i have not shaved with either. They both need handles. I did get a shavette so I can get use to a straight razor. There is a great retailer online that sells them and sample packs of razors. I still nic myself, get some alum, i have one from Razorock. As pointed out, it is all in the prep work. Get a good cream or soap, a good brush and work it into your skin. I use my shavette on the weekends when I can take my time.

Nope, they do the same thing. When I first looked into this I know nothing about septic pens or alum. they really do help. I saw a new soap that has alum in it already! Great place for info is Badger & Blade.

Y'all're nuts.

I shave about once a month with clippers, I like having some face armor. Plus I'm lazy.

Same here. Maybe 2-3 times a year I'm clean shaven (weddings funerals, special occasions) aside from that I trim with clippers when it gets long enough to annoy me. Then again I don't have an office job where appearances matter.

Those old school razors do the trick for me. I only shave once every 3 weeks or so, but when I do I start with the clippers. I usually leave the goatee, but trim it low. Then I use the old school razor to finish the job. It burns through that longer hair.

thats for sure

and there is little tug and pull i am getting better at it though! only nicked myself twice today

i still have that dont put much pressure problem on myself. i checked out B&B and they have a pretty cool forum, and people even let you try their razors as they pass them around.

Right there with you. My face hates to be clean shaven. Plus the wife likes the scruff.
