directcompute help

does directcompute in gpu really matter?
i mean do they effect gaming?

Video editing

photo editing

and many other daily computer tasks?

Like 7zip,compression?

I am a noob plz explain

And gtx 680 fails pretty bad in direct compute stuff.....

So 680 vs 7970
=?

should i get 680 or 7970 ....

i need overall scores and not only gaming ok
