New Light Skin - Now With Less Blinding White!

If you'd like to try out a less "dark" version of the forum, please do so by changing the forum skin to "Light V2".

You can change skins by going to User CP>Edit Options and at the bottom, change the selection for "forum skin" to "Light V2". Or just follow this link to make the change: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/p...do=editoptions

This skin inherits all changes made to the default dark skin... This means it is exactly the same, except for color, and stays up to date any time we make changes to the default forum appearance.

Users of the old Light skin (blinding white), may be familiar with updates in the dark skin that never made their way to the light skin. The legacy light skin will not be updated, ever.

Disclaimer: There are some contrast issues with supporting 2 skins. Certain colors work well on the dark skin (lime green, yellow), but do not contrast well with the light skin. These are limitations we can't do anything about, but Light V2 offers a usable alternative for anyone wanting something "less dark".

Looks like the lighter skin is now the forum default maybe? I ran into the same thing as well, went to user cp and changed to black. Now all is right with the world again.

Dark is back, looking into retaining black for current users, and setting white for visitors.

Now I know how to get everyone's attention.

If you want to ensure you keep the dark skin, go to options and select dark - regardless of any other settings or configurations, this will ensure you stay dark.

I think the light background would be better as long as there are still darker colors in the text areas where you are needing to actually read text.

*edit: Just for clarification, I am just saying as an alternative to the dark, not as the default

It was a setting mistake, not intended to affect regular/existing users.

Next time, try not being so quick to be a jerk. It's gotten you in trouble in the past, and isn't winning you any friends currently.

Reference this post for what I was trying to do:

FYI, people say all sorts of stuff about what is best for traffic, however traffic isn't directly tied to income due to the way this site is monetized - so your snarky comment is not even accurate. More importantly, I'm looking to make the change so that we can track analytics and see if it improves time on site over the next few weeks... There are those that do believe lighter themes are better for visitors, and I cannot prove that dark is fine without data to support it. We can't have data unless we give visitors a lighter skin.

To reiterate, we aren't looking to change the skin for members, only visitors to run a trial and collect analytics data on our specific audience.

Actually most recent news is that white and colored backrounds other than black use more power. but some people still like it. (i can see it if you have no light in your room)

Hank, you can manually set the theme to "Dark" in the control panel, which will always force this for you. That is how I have mine configured and I didn't see it "switch" when it was accidentally changed. I think you are being a bit harsh, considering it wasn't on purpose.

Lime green is as hard to read on the V2 as the blue is on the dark theme.

Still love the "#333333" dark theme the best so far.

The yellow's are tricky too on the light skin. Pretty much anything bright that looks good on dark, has bad contrast on light. Like this (its hard to tell its a paperclip on the light skin, but its clear in the dark skin):

No, the mobile skin is all we got, no different mobile styles - it can be a bit of work maintaining different skins, and mobile still only accounts for about 8% of visits. It is notable however that our mobile visits from last March to this March grew by about 150%. However there will be a new mobile web platform which we may see on this site by the end of the year or early next (not an app/tapatalk, custom developed).
