LGA 1155 vs. LGA 2011

Okay so title says it I am putting together a new build and I was wondering should I go for the x79 platform or go with ivy bridge and z77, I will be using my build for video editing and converting and some gaming, I want the maximum performance for my build so which would be better price is not that important, as I will be getting a promotion very soon , I do have a set of memory that I bought it is 2x8gb 2133mhz ripjaws x memory it would be compatible with the x79 right?
Thanks for All your help

If your editing software supports 6 cores, then LGA2011 should be considered. However, if the editing software can use the GPU for it's work, then I don't think the platform will matter much.

Your RAM should work fine in X79, since it supports single, dual, triple, and quad channel.

Thanks, I figured the different would be about $200 difference for the mobo and CPU

I'm thinking 3930k will outperform any Ivy Bridge chip for heavily multi-threaded applications.
For plain old gaming it would mean more e-peen than anything.

Okay here's my next question do you think a 850w power supply is enough? I may by a small chance do a 2 way sli configuration with 2 gtx 670s, I will be doing water cooling though

what about overclocking? is a good 3930k a good overclocking cpu, like i see that a 4.5 is a stretch for this but a 2700k a 5.0 is a stretch
if everything is good to go ill probably order i tomorrow, or should i wait for ivy bridge then compare my options?

Ivy bridge is not much better than current SB, if not worse!
At least from what I gathered so far, seems to overheat fairly bad and not clock well on air/water. -90c on an H100 anyone?-
BUT, those are unconfirmed "rumors"...

Back to the 3930k, it seems to be a hell of a chip, though quite hotter than the SB quad cores. I'm quite positive that it can outperform Ivy bridge/Sandy bridge for multithreaded applications, and perhaps memory bandwidth intensive stuff -quad channel ram -
Plus, if you ever get stung by the four way sli bug down the road the 40 pci-e 3.0 lanes might prove useful!

I'd go with a different PSU. Corsair/Seasonic/XFX/NZXT are all good high-end options.

so all in all which would i get better performance with the 3930k or the 3770k, not just for my needs necessarily, because my needs may change, but just in general, if i did get the lga 2011 i would get the asus p9x79 delxue,
if i decide too i may order it in a few hours,
btw i have a hyper 212+ and i can get a bracket to make it fit, do you think this would be good for a temperary cooler untill i get water cooling set up?
thanks for all of your help

Yeah the hyper 212+ will do for a some mild oc even, I'm guessing 4.3ghz max.
And it all boils down to preference. I personally would choose the 3930k if I had the extra $$$ cause it's already a proven performer AND because of the host of features x79 boards bring with them to the table.
If you consider you'd use the extra cores/threads and memory bandwidth and/or Sli/Xfire prowess then go ahead, be my guest

Ok...Let's see.
Try with different ram sticks, single ram stick in the first slot first.
See if it posts that way.
Also, when it boots, check the temp readings from the bios. You can see if there's a bad mount that's shutting it down cause of extreme temp throttling.

can you get it to boot outside of the case again? maybe there is a short with the mobo touching something in the case.
