Need Req for a new Laptop

I'm looking for a new laptop for the wife. She does not game, but surfs and watches videos and DVDs on it. We currently have an old Dell E1505 that just seems really slow even after I reformatted and started over.

Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Minimum of 15" screen, 17" would be great
2. Max RAM of 8gb capable
3. Graphics, stand-alone would be great, but not really necessary
4. At least a dual core like an i3, or an AMD quad core
5. Of course inexpensive and refurb is fine.

What, where and how much?

TIA

It'll really help if you tell us the "how much". There's a pretty wide range of stuff out there. I usually recommend Lenovo. A T520 will last for a long time (15") and I think they have some 17" models as well in the W line. Those might be a bit more than you're willing to spend. You can snag some deals (if you're quick) at outlet.lenovo.com.

i3 + 15.6" for $350 or i5 + 17" for $450.

Decisions, decisions.

outlet.lenovo.com - Thanks.

Thank you.

I just bought this:

http://outlet.lenovo.com/laptops/1037xf5.html

A little more than what I originally wanted to spend, but future-proof for at least a couple, few years.

Look at dell's outlet center, too or Toshiba's on ebay. Nice prices.

SO on 4/24, I pulled the trigger on the Lenovo and while I'm waiting around doing the pee-pee dance waiting to get my hands on it, the estimated ship time has been pushed back from 4/30 to 5/4 now. WTH???

It's REFURB! It's not as if they are building the darn thing. Hurry up and ship it already!

This has happened to me too. You can call them up and complain.

So I called and made a native English speaker squirm because I was not happy about how fast they were shipping my laptop. In addition, I was irritated that I was being charged sales tax for an item that is being sent from out of state.

The CS rep had no reasonable explanation as to why I was being charged tax. And it just so happens that at the beginning of the call, I was asked to participate in a customer satisfaction survey.

It's a little late to complain about tax, since it was revealed at checkout that you would be paying it.

Since I've been sick as a dog for the last week, I finally got around to calling Lenovo. According to their CS, my order was cancelled because they were OOS. The problem with that load of bovine feces is that when I ordered my laptop, they had according to their website, 28 or so exact machines.

By the time I got anxious and called them, they around 20 or so and when I got the cancellation email, I followed the link and it said there were still 8 latops of the same configuration.

Of course NOW there may none left, but who's to know since their website has been down all day which btw seems to happen quite frequently.

Also, I can't find any laptops at all of the same configuration when I use their SEARCH feature, yet I can find it using the direct link I have. At least the last time the website was up and running. Hmm.

The Indian CS rep was able to convey (after several tries) that I am eligible for a 10% discount because of this fiasco on their part. Of course I'd have to wait until the website is back up and running.
