6950 doesn't work when watercooled

Hi Guys,

I've had this issue for a while now, but I just thought I'd check to see if anyone had any idea what could be wrong.

I'very got a 6950 which I watercooled, and it was fine for a while but then started having problems with the drivers restarting mid game.

After a whole load of software debugging (new drivers, old drivers, driver cleaners, etc) I switched the air cooler back in and everything was fine.

The block is a koolance 220 gpu block, which just covers the gpu, so I also used ram sinks.

I've tried a whole load of different things to debug, reseating the block, extra cooling for the FETs, plugging in the gpu fans as well...

The only thing I can think of is that the waterblock is causing the board to warp.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Matt

Is warping visible with the waterblock? Is anything in the waterblock configuration touching components on the board when it shouldn't? And what are your temps like under water? Those are the big things I can think of.

Make sure their is some air flowing over the card to cool the ram ramsinks cant do their job without airflow.

I think there was a little warping around the gpu, I'm planning a strip and rebuild at some point, so I'll take a better look then. One of the reasons I was wondering about warping the stock gpu cooler has some other points which make contact with the card and take some of the load, so it's not all around the gpu.

I couldn't see anything touching that shouldn't, but I'll double check that.

Airflow is good, and the stock cooler doesn't even cool half the ram...

Gpu temps with water are significantly lower than on air, I've seen load temps of 100c on air...

Cheers,

Matt
