hey ppl. new guy jason here, ill get to the point tho,

trying to overclock my system, cant seem to get the ram to overclock to well,

system specs are:

i7 920 d0 stepping / asus p6t se / 2x2gb g.skill ram 12800 1600,hz / nvidia gxt 260oc / wd hhd

my current (unstable oc) is at 3.6ghz, with ram at 1804mhz, if i underclock my ram it is stable, my bios setup is as follows.

oc xmp

1600mhz 9.9.9.24.2n 1.5v

cpu ratio 20
speedstep dis
bclk 180
pcie 100
dram 1804

cpu 1.225v
cpu ppl 1.9v
dram bus 1.64v

and disabled
cpu spreadspec
c1e
virt
cpu tm
speedstep
cstate

is anyone could work out were my problem is, would be greatfull cheers jason

Why are you looking for stability at DDR3-1800, when your RAM is rated for DDR3-1600? Change the DRAM frequency to DDR3-1440 (x8 DRAM multiplier) at 9-9-9-24, or bump the BCLK to 200 w/ the multiplier set to x18 = 3.6GHz w/ the x8 DRAM mult. = DDR3-1600.

well from what i read it was how u overclocked the ram, if i set the mulriplier to x18, couldnt that run slower that at x20 at 180

The effective DRAM frequency = BCLK x DRAM multiplier. So at the current 180 BCLK and utilizing the x10 DRAM multiplier, the effective DRAM frequency = DDR3-1800. At the same 180 BCLK utilizing the x8 DRAM multiplier, the effective DRAM frequency = DDR3-1440. So either leave the RAM under-clocked at a 180 BCLK, or raise the BCLK to 200 w/ the x8 DRAM multiplier = DDR3-1600.

ok done that

cpu x18
bclk200
ram freq comes up as 1603??

how can i o/c my ram?

cheers for the info btw

Why are you determined to overclock your RAM? Instead you should be focusing on increasing your CPU overclock.

i have tho. it was stable from 2.66 o/c to 3.6 at x20 bclk 180 with ram at 1440 underclocked, but i wanted a lille bump in the ram

i changed it to, x18 bclk200 with ram at 1603 but i had to set bios oc to manuel coz xmp would default it...strange, ram timmings are at 9.9.9.24.2t
