Hd Audio VS AC 97 Help

Hi

I am Building a pc and went to hook this up and I only have 1 plug for the Hd audio and ac 97 plug. There is 2 on the mobo but the cable is not long enough to connect both. The hd and ac 97 are wired together which I guess I correct from the case.

My main question is do both need to be hooked up and if not, which one do I hook up? Im confused.

You only hook one up and you do it to their respective connectors.

You hook up the HD if the motherboard supports HD, look in the manual. The AC '97 is to support older motherboards.

Modern boards allow you to set either HDA or AC97 support in BIOS. If you don't see anything related to that in the BIOS, use the HDA.
