Hey guys,

I'm overclocking my CPU i7-860. At the moment at an 3.6 GHZ. But it freezes after 2 min of OCCT testing.

Settings are:

XMP settings : DDR3 1600 9-9-9-24 1.50V
BCLK: 180
CPU Ratio: 20
QPI frequency: 5.760GT
Dram frequency: 720 MHz DDR3_1440
CPU Voltage: 1.4
DRAM Voltage: Auto
VTT Voltage: 1.36
PCH Voltage: Auto
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.81

PC specs:

ASROCK P55DE3
Corsair Vengeancy DDR3 Tri kit 12GB-1600 MHz
MSI ATI RADEON R5770 HAWK
CPU Cooling Corsair H100

CPU temperature on idle is 47C
Loaded it will reach temperatures to a max of 76C

Eventually I want it to overclock to a 3.8 or even 4 GHz. Could you guys help?

Thats kinda high on the temps, but not too bad. When running OCCT Testing what does the voltage look like on your CPU? If you use a program like CPUZ it will tell you what the voltage looks like under windows. I wonder because you don't mention your power supply.

Did you try some of the great overclocking guides out there?

http://www.overclock.net/t/743111/g...e-core-i7-860-to-4-0ghz-on-a-evga-p55-ftw-200 <- A very quick and dirty guide to overclocking to a specific speed.

http://www.masterslair.com/how-to-overclock-intel-core-i7-i5-i3-cpu-overclocking-guide/ <- A very comprehensive and complete guide on understanding how to overclock, I would suggest reading this and using this guides suggestions to try to figure out what could be causing the instability.

http://www.overclockers.com/3-step-guide-overclock-core-i3-i5-i7/ <- And of course an article from this site with instructions and ideas on how to properly oc a Core I7 860 class cpu.

Good luck.

Well I have a Power supply from Be Quiet 530W. That should be plenty right? Or is this power supply not stable enough for such a job?

By "Corsair Vengeancy DDR3 Tri kit 12GB-1600 MHz", I assume you have 3 x 4GB modules installed? If so, remove one of the sticks and leave the remaining two in a dual-channel config. (1st and 3rd or 2nd and 4th DIMM slots).

That didn't work unfortanetly.. I just can't figure out what the problem is..
