What saved my CPU??? It’s a mystery to me!

Well things around here seem a bit slow of late so here's something a bit different to work on!

This is the strangest mystery for me ever. The attached picture contains sections from the log file generated by MBM5. I keep this file going with about 250 entries and it updates about every 15 seconds, because a lot can happen in 15 seconds!
Sometime during the night there was a problem with the supply from the power company and when I woke this morning I saw that the computer was running. What turned it back on is yet another part of the mystery.
Anyway, for most of you this would not have been an issue but for me it should have spelled disaster. You see, I use a blower mounted on the side of my case that needs to be turned on prior to turning on the system. If it isn’t, then there is no air movement to the heatsink because there is no fan mounted on the heatsink.
At about 1:02 in the morning the system started and looking at the bottom record you can see that the temp was 34c.
Over the next 20 minutes it went from there to 90c!!! Then it stopped recording. Whatever made it stop recording to the log file also protected the CPU because it is now running just as before.
Now I know I read somewhere that AMD says 90c is the max for these chips, but when I also recall all of the people who have said they ‘fried’ their CPUs, I wonder what could have happened to save this one.
One thing that I note here is that I am using a PAL8045 heatsink which is very efficient, but even it would have it’s limits.
No, something caused the system to go into some kind of protection or suspend mode because the power LED was lit when I woke this morning and by looking at the temps recorded, it was running and getting darn hot! When I realized it was on I quickly turned on the blower and turned the PSU switch off. I left it alone for about 10 minutes. That was as long as I could stand not knowing for sure if it had fried. I started it as usual and it booted as usual. Surprised the heck out of me!! I figured for sure I would be ordering another processor.

I did some more checking and even though I have the ShutdownNow program, it was not set to run. I also checked in the bios and the power on by LAN or keyboard are both disabled.

Any Sherlock Holmes out there want to tell me what you think happened, and why?

I suppose I could try to recreate the whole thing but in my book that would be foolish and tempting fate a little too much!!

Why didn't the fan turn back on when the electricity came back on?

It wasn't suppose to. The system wasn't suppose to either!
The fan(blower) is on a separate outlet and is controlled by a dimmer switch to slow it down. It is manually turned off when I shut the system down.
When I shut down the system I use Start->Shutdown and make sure the system does shut down then I turn off the blower and monitor. Startup is the reverse.
