Will XP Home work on newer mobos,cpus,etc?

I am in process of building my first gamer pc.Im not gettin all great stuff, just something newer than my ancient agp.I want to maybe install windows 7 and my old home xp as a dual boot so i can have my older games and new ones.has anyone tried this before?

Sure, you can set up a dual boot w/ XP and Win7. Here's a good tutorial for doing just that...

Can the Windows 7 "XP Mode" virtual machine be used for legacy gaming, or is that a bad idea? I've only used it for old applications and hardware that doesn't work in Vista/7 due to drivers. I never thought to try running a game with it.

It doesn't so any graphics acceleration at all. I've not tested it at all, but I'd expect DOS games to work (as well as they might in XP) and others to not work at all.

In this case, I'd just go get DOSbox and be done with it.
