I have found the internet to be a massive time sink, and I easily bypass methods I put in place such as hosts file redirect to localhost when I get bored enough.

Some websites just aren't useful in a professional sense, and I want to know how I can block them forever (barring reinstallation of the OS or recompiling the kernel, etc.). I currently run Linux Mint 13, Mac OS X 10.7, and will shortly be installing Gentoo or Arch.

A method for any of those would be appreciated.

I think I have a solution. As I've said, I bypass my own blocks fairly easily on a local machine, but I can use the file monitor API to make sure the redirect is always present.

I do not own a router, sadly.
