Xfx 7870 fps question

Just built my new system and only had time to play the walking dead and minecraft while other games download and it seems my fps for both games on high settings stay around 60fps. Just wonder if this is what I should be getting or if more.

system specs.
Amd phenom ii x4 965
xfx 7870 core edition
4gb memory at 1600mhz
windows 8 64 bit

Do you have vsync enabled? If so that will limit your framerate to your monitors refresh rate.

that seems to be the problem. Went up to 130 fps now in minecraft

Great, vsync is used to help eliminate screen tearing which can be quite bad in some games. However I usually keep it off, since I have yet to play a game which was bad enough for me to turn it on.

Having it on can also cause heavy mouse lag which can vary depending on the game and the unlocked framerate.

i got the asus version of the 7870, overclocked it to 1204 mhz, plays everything amazingly!
