Hello all,

I'm toying with the idea of upgrading my computer a little. New motherboard, DDR3 memory etc.

I have a set up with the following parts which I built 3 - 4 years ago....

Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Black Processor HDZ720WFGIBOX

G.SKILL HK 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL4D-4GBHK

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V

I'm limited to old memory now so I'm looking to upgrade motherboard and RAM at this time. Any suggestions? I'm kind of out of the loop as to what's come out in recent times. I don't need anything on an enthusiast level. I don't overclock or game too often but I do plano on adding a BD-ROM soon. That's about the only changes I intend on making.

Cheers for reading!

Thank you!

What is your budget? I looked at the CPU you selected and it's mostly out of stock, or what pricing I saw was exorbitant compared with the newer tech out there (the 720 is a few generations old and from what I saw was $200-300). If you intend to surf the intertubes and watch movies then you may want to consider spending the savings on a good GPU.

a budget build, 965BE, asus M5A97-r2.0.
processor, 89.00, board 120.00.
if you want to upgrade you can later go to a 6300 with little in the way of issues.
the one johan45 has linked is a very good choice.

Thanks for the replies guys. Given me something to chew on. I was hoping to spend up to around $120 so I have a couple of options here.

Maybe you could also throw these into the mix as well! AJ.

These motherboards is what i would call a good investment, why because it will work with any Phenon II now and also a FX 6 Series and a FX 8 Series as well! Giving you plenty of options for the future without having to buy another motherboard or take out your set up as well! So to me that would make real sense. ;)
