So I just bought a new AM3 AMD Phenom II x4 965 black ed with 8 gigs of gskill RAM.
I just went in, set memory settings to auto and noticed my old OCZ stickswere in DRAM_1 and DRAM_3.
I think I remember doing this because I RMA'd the paired pair once and they still would not work, so I just said "oh well. I wanna play games right now".
THIS time, I thought to myself "damn, theres a problem I never resolved..."
I stuck in 2 sticks in 1 and 2 and NO BOOT. dead screen.
3 and 4 NO BOOT. dead screen
1 and 3 BOOTS, posts everything is good.
now im wondering: A) is the memory controller on the CPU?? Its been so long...

B) could it be something else related to the MOBO??

if it is, i would want to buy a new mobo, and UPGRADE FROM SOCKET AM3. In which case I would need to return my brand new CPU.

amd cpus are notorious for their fickleness with ram and ram placing.

that said... i'd suggest you reset your bios and try again

ok, did that and just went for it. looks like bad MC on old cpu, as everything works fine now.
now i just gotta do some tweaking...
as a side note, i think its stupid that if you own win7 x86, you cannot download an installation disc for win7 x64, as the same key works for both... annoying.
