Having a hmmm moment so wanted to ask here in case someone's had and resolved this issue.

Am benching using a stripped version of Vista x86. Am pretty sure it's sp1 (can't get to computer>properties to see). The build's pretty nice....been getting a few decent boints....but I can't run any of the PCMark apps since I'm missing IE9.

Downloaded the standalone installer ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16792 ) but error out of the install with it moaning that I need to install updates. Got the sp2 updates ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2399238#method3 ) but they won't install because they 'don't support my sp'.

Am loathe to even attempt installing sp2....

Anyone know how to get IE9 installed so PCMark will work?

tia!

Are you talking about PCMark05? If so, then here's what you need for getting it to run on Vista...
  1. Install SP1 and SP2
  2. Install KB949939 (required for IE8)
  3. Install KB937287 (required for IE8)
  4. Install IE8
  5. Install KB971512
  6. Install KB2117917
  7. Enable User Account Control (UAC)
  8. Install Windows Media Encoder 9
  9. Install PCMark05

Sounds like the custom copy of Windows you have has bad/wrong file versions.

If you have Windows 7, get an ISO that has SP1 already then use RT7 Lite.

With Vista, good luck. Updating Vista is more difficult. :(
