Have a wifi card with 2.3 pci spec will not work Asrock 990fx extreme9 .
Need to know pci spec of mobo

PCI 2.2 spec by SB 950.

Given that 2.3 and 3.0 have been around since 2002 (though I've yet to see a board with 3.0 slots, and probably never will, given PCIe adoption), I have doubts that SB950 really only supports 2.2. Source that, please :) AFAIK, Auzen X-Fi Prelude is a 2.3 card (has both 3.3v and 5v keys), and it works fine in my board.

The Southbridge for the new platform is still the same old SB850 except it is being renamed to SB950. While the chip is a year old, it’s not completely outdated so it is still a good choice. It supports six SATA 6Gbps and 14 USB 2.0 ports. The lack of USB 3.0 is a bit of a disappointment. To be fair, the latest Z68 chipset only supports 2 SATA 6Gbps and does not offer USB 3.0 support. So at least AMD offers more SATA 6Gbps. Still, we would prefer to see USB 3.0 natively supported. There are four additional PCI-E 2.0 x1 lanes available on the chip. Finally, keeping with backward compatibility, the chip still supports the aging PCI 2.2 and parallel ATA.

I guess I just looked at the wrong boards :) Four different boards I looked for just said "1x PCI slot" without any revision information.

Regardless, a 2.3 card should work just fine in a 2.2 slot. I don't think the PCI revision is the problem at all. It's more likely either the board has a dead slot (which I've encountered on five different boards I've owned) or the wifi card is bad. OP, have you tested the card in another computer, or tried some other PCI card in your board?
