Touch Screen Monitors Question

I've gotten spoiled with the touch screen on my Nexus 7 and I was wondering if touch screen functions are available for desktops. Is so, is the touch function dictated by software, i.e. Microsoft 8.1 rather than Win 7? I' you I'm sure there is much more involved than simply making a monitor screen "touchable".

Monitor itself has to support touch functionality, an OS does not supply that.

So essentially if a monitor is "touchable" then a desktop could emulate a tablet?

Supports multi-touch (3-touch) and probably has gestures. Now I'm unsure if it would treat it as a tablet or just give you the functionality of using your finger as a mouse pointer. I believe it would be about halfway between.

Thank you for the info. It appears touch screens can be somewhat acceptable, but no where close to a tablet. Newegg buyer comments indicate longevity is another factor. However, I now have direction to explore and increase my fund of knowledge.

there are glass panels that you can strap to you existing monitor that enable touch control.
