Hey guys! I'm looking to build a new computer, but I'm not sure if the PSU i've selected has quite enough wattage for overclocking.
The tentative specs are:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($239.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H90 94.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($84.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus Z97-PRO ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($187.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($73.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($264.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Dual FTW ACX Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($509.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Dual FTW ACX Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($509.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced ATX Full Tower Case ($119.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair 860W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($169.99 @ Amazon)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer ($21.74 @ OutletPC)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit) ($94.98 @ OutletPC)
Monitor: Dell P2314H 60Hz 23.0" Monitor ($189.99 @ Best Buy)
Keyboard: Logitech G105 Wired Gaming Keyboard ($39.99 @ Amazon)
Mouse: Cooler Master Recon Wired Optical Mouse ($33.09 @ Amazon)
Speakers: Genius SW-G2.1 1250 38W 2.1ch Speakers ($49.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $2586.69
I know 860 watts will be more than enough as is, but with a modest overclock on the CPU (~4.1GHz) and both the GPU's (1000-1100 MHz), I'm not sure if I should step it up to something more towards 1000 Watts just to be safe. Maybe a Corsair HX1050 instead.
I've a limited knowledge of just how much extra wattage GPU overclocking requires. What are your thoughts?
