I bought a Antec 510w psu because it has a 30amp 12v line, which is what I need tp power my 156w pelt and system. I got it a bout 2 weeks ago and only tried to install it today. I found out as I inspected it closer that it has a 24 pin male mobo conector and my mobo has a 20 pin female connector. It won't work. Do you think I can mod it into a 20 pin male by splicing a 20 pin onto the cabeling and closing up the other 4 wires? Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Oh yeah, my mobo is a Abit KR7A atx and the psu is for a dual Tyan atx.

To even attempt that, which I am not sure you can even do, you would need the cable assignments from both the PSU and the mobo. Certain pins send individual signals to the mobo, so if it isn't exactly right, it won't work.

I have the pin assignments for the mobo but not for the psu it did'nt come with a manual. I e-mailed the Antec support people and asked for a wire voltage diagram (did'nt have one on website), I hope they are able to send me one.

I don't think I will mod my 510w psu right now, maybe later after the spring semester is over. Then I will have more time. I will just use it to power my pelts. I have a 156w but I haven't tried it yet, if I like what it does then I will get the 172w. The 510w psu has a 30amp 12 volt line which provides ample amperage for pelt action.

Antec never has replied to my e-mails? Buncha jerks, too buisy counting all that money.

Man Newegg.com said nothing of that PSU being a non standard PSU. You have to do some reserch to find that out. If you want you can make it a good dedicated PSU for a pelt pretty easy. All it takes is 2 wires shorted to turn it on.

Yeah bro, it's cool no big deal, I am gonna keep it and use it to power my pelts. I have a strong feeling that I will have to get a 172w before too long. I got all of my stuff now, the only thing that is holding me up is drilling some holes in the back of my case for the hoses to go out. I have this custom case with a sliding mobo tray and the metal is real thick where I plan for the hoses to go out. I don't have any thing that will make the holes so I have to wait until next week and borrow a drill from my buddy. I read a thread last week that you posted on and I think you said you got a 45lb psu for your setup. Is that right? 45lbs? KATUUNGAA!

If you use that Antec monster to run a TEC make sure to also load the 5 volt line with 5 amps or so. All switching power supplies need their primary line loaded to put out good, stable voltage on their secondary lines. Grab some power resistors and put them across the 5 volt output, then turn the sucker on and the 12v line will be stable.

He was planning on using it in the system so loading would be no problem. Hopefully somone can figure out a mod so he can use plug it into a 20 pin.

Yeah Krag thats right I got a HUGE Astron 50 amp PSU and yes it is actually 45 pounds.

Actually I'm using it for a single 226 watt 24 amp 15.2v peltier. The PSU gets a little warm but not even close to hot. It could easily power dual 156 watt pelts if I ever wanted it to. The pelt is so powerful I had to solder 2 sets of wire to each lead to keep the wire from overheating. When I flip the PSU switch all the lights in my room flicker. I bet with some cooling, even just a little it would handle dual 226 watt plets with little problem.
