I am looking for a 19-inch monitor, and I am looking for some input. Right now the Dell deal on the Samsung 955df is nice for $167 after rebate. Though I do not think it will compare to the 17-inch Sony I have now. Sony monitors are just so clear. Also there is a Dell 19-inch with a trinitron tube for around $300+.

I would like to stay under $500, and I am in no rush.

Gimme some ideas?

Kyle

It`s not so important for playing games to have an average monitor but if you are into CAD & artwork type programs then it`s important to get the best you can afford for example I payed alot of money about a year ago for my Iiyma "Vision Master Pro 45" but I have no regrets its a great monitor even now but I did my homework at the time, reading lots of articles.

I do not do any CAD work, though I do some digital pictures and web design.

The samsung 955df can do 1280x1024 at 85hz, can't it?

I have a CTX PR960F and can mange to abit over 85Hz when using a resoultion of 1600x1200, im currently using 1152x864 at 100Hz (it can go higher) . I think it is a great monitor also has a built in USB Hub (useless to me but still nice) :)

Anyone know what the difference is between these 2 Sonys?

CPD-G420S
CPD-G410R

They both look the same to me?

Kyle

the S is more expensive, lol. I couldnt see anything other than that. You might want to go over thier site though. They give much more information on the S

I've had a SyncMaster 955DF for almost two years now

and it is the best monitor I've ever had. Virtually flat, super clear and incredibly durable. I've never seen a Sony monitor that could match this quality. Granted, the refresh rate is only 100 at maximum, but that's still not bad considering most hardcore users still run at 85... The Samsung's great and you really can't beat it for most applications.

My only thing against it is the very low refresh rates at 1280x1024.

Though it is very cheap.... $167 after rebate is about 1/2 of the Sony....

hmm....

Anyone else with any input? Anything comparable to the Sony in quality and Cost?

take a look at the cornerstone p2460 or something like that...they have an article about it @ www.tomshardware.com

its what i'm getting, cuz my friend has one and he really likes it...

~289 bucks on pricewatch and it's apparently a GREAT monitor...

Ok, I ordered the 955df, the way I see it if it sucks I can still sell it for more than I bought it for.

I have read too many great reviews to not try it.

Ok I have received my monitor and I will have to say. For $167 this monitor kicks ***. My only complaint is that really bright things can be a bit washed out, and there could be a tad more vibrance in the colors. Oh, ya and a bit more refresh rate would be nice at higher resolutions. Though I find 75hz at 1280x960 is just fine. I have no reason to run any higher as it would just make things too small.

Anyone looking for a good monitor at a great price should check this deal out. Also any color issues can be corrected in the nvida drivers if you can not get it just perfect on the monitors settings.
