I have a question about building waterblocks. when people make waterblocks with mazes and spirals and stuff like that, are those water blocks made with 2 pieces of copper(al)? such as they drill the maze, then solder on a top that has the inlet/outlet/ ports?

am I right, or wrong

You are correct. They mill the base and then solder on
the top. The recent trend is to make the top out of
Lexan or Plexiglass. This looks cool and is probably
cheaper to produce, but it is not without issues.

if the waterblock is made from three parts, the base, the sides and the top. then there would be less active surface area, as the sides of the waterblock will not transfer heat as well. the largest problem with using a plexiglass, lexan or acrilic top for a waterbclock is it leaking, most plastics are quite brittel and crack under heat changes, or pressure, such as tightening a barb.
