Networking trouble

I really don't know what I'm doing as far as networking goes...

I've got the PC in my sig with win2k, a laptop running win98se, and an HP running winMe all hooked up to a Linksys 4-port router with Roadrunner cable.

I'm trying to get file and printer-sharing going between all three. So far, I can get the laptop to see my PC, but not to be able to share files. I can freely share from the laptop's HDD from my PC. Neither the laptop nor my PC can even detect the HP, but the HP can detect the laptop and my PC, and share files from them.

All are set-up as "Clients for M$ network"
All have been given a their own common user name on each computer. All are on the same workgroup, but the HP doesn't show up. It's the one hooked up to the printer, so this problem is frustrating me. All the options to share files and printers have been activated on these 3 machines, and passwords and logons have been set-up. Do each of these need to have a logon with administrator privledges maybe?

When I try to add the HP as a network place on my laptop or PC manually (searching for it doesn't work), it gives an "unknown error code 2114". It says that it isn't accepting connection requests. Also, when I try to use it to browse the "Entire Network icon", it can't.

My roommate needs to format/reinstall Win ME... or really just ditch Me and get some more memory and run something else, because he gets other problems like freezing during scandisk, occaisioanl internet connection failures, and his PC is just generally buggy. But he needs to back-up 50Gb worth of stuff before he can do that... hence the need to share files between our PC's.

Anyone got any ideas on this? Am I stumbling around blindly and doing things all the wrong way or what?

Router

Also, how do I access the router's configuration? It was just taken from the box and plugged in. Should I make adjustments to it?

if the printer is connected to the router, then you need to install software on every pc, that detects the printer on the router! normally deliverd with the router (if the router has lpt1 and the printer is connected with that!)
if it is an network printer, then you need to setup the ip and the subnet mask in the printer.
for filesharing:
in win98 you can give network acces to a folder easily. in win2k/xp it is a bit different. go into the explorer and under ooption, check if "easy filesharing is disabled" (disable this one if it isn't [not sure if this option already exists in win2k])
then do the same as in 98, rightclick on the folder, and give acces for user guest.
in the systemcontrol there is the computercontrol (if that's what it is called in english) there you have to activate the user guest. otherwise you won'T be able to share files.
