Loading Sequence Troubles

Hi,
I've bee racking my brains out tryin to get this right.
I don't know if it's me of the new hardware / drivers.

Either OS, 98se/ ME. sequence.
Load:
1. OS
2. LG HDD support
3.IDE Bus mastering
4. VIA 4in1 (either 4.34 or the 4.38's)

So far, to this point everything is fine. VGA Mode
Vid card reconized.

5.Load vid drivers, reboot

6. System hangs before desktop comes up.

IRQ's in BIOS boot up are listed, ummm, 3 of them are on # 5
I figure loading the Bus mastering should've taken care of this, but not.

System:
Asus A7V266E DDR mobo
256 Corsair PC2100 - 1 stick @ 2-2-2
WD 20 gig 7200 HDD ATA100
Netgeat 3510 Lan card
GeForce 4 Ti4400 vid card

I don't think it matters, but I have a Duron in it @ 950x100 1.85v w/H20 for the time. [untill I get a OS loaded stable]

If by "IDE Bus mastering" you mean the "VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Driver", Do not install this driver. Installing the latest version of the 4in1's v. 4.38(2)v(a) is sufficient...the installation of the 3.0.14 or earlier Bus Mastering driver causes nothing but problems on a large percentage of systems that have it installed.

The 4.38's include an updated IDE driver that's newer than the 3.0.14 and a lot more stable. AFA "LG HDD support", I'm not quite sure what you mean other than 'Enabling Large HDD Support" in Fdisk...could you be more specific?

ATA 100 LG HDD Suppost I think it is.
Before loading it, it is under Device Mangr - Hard Disk Controller. It is a Promise Driver off the CD.
From what you've told me so far, I'd say its a conflict between the 4in1's and the VIA PCI Controller drivers.
-There is a PCI Controller in the 4in1's?
- Now they tell me -LOL

So Far it should go:
1.OS
2.ATA100
3.4in1's
Is this correct?

That looks fine...like I said, make sure not to install the 3.14 miniport driver and you should be OK.

Miniports.... nope never even went near those.
Realized that the ATA 100 I mentioned, was for "mass storage device"

This should get me through tho.

OK, I gave it a quick shot last nite.
Fresh install after FDISK.
Loaded :
1. OS
2.ATA100 -mass storage device
3. 4in1's
4. vid driver 28.32's

locked up.
Reading through the readme.txt files today. ( I printed them out)
The ATA100 has a miniport driver for ALL OS's. - 1.60 (build 25)
from VIA.

What bugs me is:
I normally would load 1. OS 2. ATA100 mass storage 3. PCI Bus master controller 4. 4in1's 5. Vid Driver. and run from there.

Now I have a 266A chipset and this, in so many words....SUX

I will see what I can do tonight when I get home.
