Gigabyte GA7VXRP& Raid setup Prob

I've just built a system with this board and am having a problem with the RAID setup- everything seems to be working ok, with one exception- the Raid 0 array seems to be slower than a normal single UDMA66 drive!
The system:
AMD 2100+
Gigabyte GA7VXRP
2 WD 40gb 7200 rpm drives (one on IDE3, other on IDE4)
256 MB Crucial DDR
Windows XP Pro

I've tried chaging the BIos, changing the drivers (latest D/L from GB), changing the Drives setup, changing assorted BIos settings, etc etc- nothing seems to make any difference

I personally feel that if everything else appears to be setup right, then I must have missed something- but have no clue what I missed. Please help, if you can- a Sandra score of 14000 on a RAID array ain't nothing to brag about!
