Question Will this type of silicone hose work for cooling?

I was wondering if this type of silicone hose (vacuum) will work for water cooling my system.

http://www.rx7.net.nz/silicone.htm

According to the specs, it should withstand 120 psi and temperatures up to 177C! I just thought it would look kind of cool to use colored silicone hose and wondered if anyone has any knowledge if this is ok.

Thank you for your help

You can run gasoline through it if you really want to. Should be fine.

Thanks for your input. I thought it would probably be ok but I wondered if there were any cons to using opaque (can't see thru) hose.

Thanks again.

Now that you mention it, yeah, there's one, you can't see through it! Mind you, that can be a pro, because you won't get so much algae because it needs light to live.

the only reason i would reccomend clear hose is because u can check for air bubbles with clear hose. Just make sure u do a badass job of getting the air out, that can really kill cooling performance.

Thanks, Malakai, I will do that. I read an excellent article on this site about air traps and I plan on putting one in. In the article it stressed the importance of making sure that the trap is located at the highest point in the cooling system to be most effective. If I go with the colored hose I will follow your advice.

THe only prob i know of with silicon is discoloration. Over time the minerals in the water (and chemicals) can bleach the tubing. So your color may fade...

My vinyl tubing is getting bleached. Weird since I've only run my system for only 8 months. That tubing on that site should work fine. It'd look neat too.

oh, and if you use any additives like water wetter or antifreeze, algae won't build up in the hose, so that's one con fewer with the clear ones.

I think colored ones look cooler tho, and I can't see anything that might suggest it could be worse in any way, so if you know what you're doing, go ahead and get one!
