Kr7a Crashing on games

i just updated my kg7 1600mhz to a kr7a non raid 1900mhz
i had no problem with my kg7, but the kr7a is a different story.
my system:
Windows xp
Athlon Xp 1900
Abit kr7a non raid
512meg Crucial Ram
500watts power supply
Abit soundcard
latest via driver
direct x 8.1
morpheus geforce 3 ti 500
detonator driver 28.84
realtek nic
Here is my problem
1: i did have a soundblaster card had to get rid of it cause it randomly restarted my computer.tried installing it on different pci slots to no avail.so i got an abit soundcard that fix the restarting problem.
2:Now when im playing counterstrike or aliens vs predator 2 it
randomly crashes to my desktop.
i've already been to pauls faq did not find an answer
can anyone shed some light on this please...
i even tried flashing the bios to a beta version still didnt fix the problem. Also tried different version of det driver still no good.
im thinking of swapping my board to a soltek 75drv4. i've been reading good reviews on it.

Welcome To The Forums!!!!!

.....and to the addiction

1. What I found out about the SBLive cards is that if you disable/remove the Creative SB16 Emulation in the device manager before you install it's drivers you can use it with little or no headaches. Also do not install any of the DOS drivers.

2. Why do you think it's the MoBo not the Video Card drivers? Are you using BETA 4in1s? What are your AGP settings in the BIOS? What are your temps? Are you sure that the PSU is really up to snuff? It might be a 500W but it's not just total wattage that makes a good PSU. First things first is to check things non overclocked with official drivers for your MoBo & Video Card, no BETA Drivers, & see how things go. If you want to work on this step by step just post back. I'm afraid there might not be an instant cure fir this but we can slowly chip away at it

In addition to all the above mentioned possibilities. I found a multitude of issues including random crashes in programs related to not having a fesh install of Windows XP from my motherboard. I also upgraded from a KG7 but to a KR7a Raid. I'd try the other things first but when worse comes to worse, burn your special files to discs and reformat.

Good luck buddy.

it could be my video card anything is possible, could it be a conflic between my mobo kt266A chipset and my video card. When i did have the kg7 there was no problem.
no i am not using a beta 4in1s. my agp settings are in the bios are:
Aperture size: 32
Agp mode: 4x
agp driving control: auto
agp fast write: disabled
agp master 1 ws write: disabled
agp master 1 ws read: disabled

using a 500watts powmax Lp-6100x
also tried using a powmax 400watts psu with the same result
my temps are idle: 49
after 3dmarks2000se: 56
using a Zalman CNPS6000-CU
video card and cpu not overclocked, funny thing i can run 3dmark2000se all day and it wont crash.
thanks for the tip on the soundblaster i might reinstall it,it is a much superior card than the abit au10.

my rams are installed on dimm 2 and dimm 4 it was the only way
it would pick up both stick. i tried installing them on dimm 1 and dimm 3 but it would only pick up one stick.

putting them on dims 1 and 2 would be better, instability develops after going beyond 2.

Try an AGP Aperture size of 64Mb. I also had that weird problem of 3DMark running but play a certain game & it would throw me to the desktop, for some reason it would happen when the game needed a CD in the drive so I cranked the VCore up a notch & everything was right as rain. This was all when I had a unknown PSU with not enough combined 12V & 5V wattage.

Temps wise if you running that hot it could also be the case of the drop outs.

i installed win XP with my hardware (see below)
my pc crashed after random time every time playing half-life(CS) to BSOD
got infinite_loop_error wich is related to the detonator drivers and a registry in memory wich XP "sets free" for faster performance (well this is one theory anyway)

I reinstalled my W2k and my system is now runnig smoothly as never before - I wont do XP until there is a fix for this problem.

I was thinking that perhaps your nivida card+detonator drivers is causing you the grief - there is plenty of advice out there on this - search the forums

Also agressive memory settings can cause you grief. Try using "optimised defaults" on all the advanced chipset pages in BIOS - it might "loosen" your system up for XP - u will get lower benchmarks though
