Well after hearing these strange sounds, clicks & noises coming from my hard drive....you guessed it...the IBM Deskstar 60GXP, I'm quickly looking to buy a new one from Maxtor. I've heard good things about their D740X line of hard drives, but on their site it states in bold, red lettering..."Warranty Period To Be Determined." I figured it's probably because their new drives have this "fluid liquid bearing motors." I'm not even sure what this is but it sounds cool to me! Does anyone currently own any of these drives and can comment on their performance and most importantly their stability? Maybe it's just me but shouldn't Maxtor have already decided about issues as important as manufacturer warranties *before* distribution into the marketplace?

maxtor recently bought out quantum
liquid fluid bering motors = old quantum stock...
my friend that works @ staples warned me away from these drives... he says the have a very high return rate... i bought one anyway (80 gig) for a friend that does alot of graphics work... it died within two weeks... i dont know how loud it really was (i wasnt paying attention it was an install and run job...) so my advice stay away from these. also maxtor changed the warantee around now if the drives defective the replace it only once with the same exact model so if the second drive messes up your sol ( the old warantees still stand tho)

Simply means your warrenty stands unlimited untill it is to be determined by the Hard Drive company.

Maxtor Hard Drives with the warrenty undetermined are useally the newest ones which Maxtor does not fire off the warrenty untill the drive is at least six months old into the market. The Maxtor D740X series should see its warrenty (3 years) by the end of next month.
