i made a water block using a silver dollar as the base, and a 1 inh wide copper cap on top of it.
it just occured to me that many us coins are not 1 metal.

pennies have zinc in them and quartrs are 3 layers of 2 different matereals.

so is my older vintage silver dollar, real silver?

I'm not 100% positive but I think anything from 1945-1964 is around 85% silver. Do a search for silver coin water blocks in this forum and you should find a thread from a month or so ago where the silver content of coins was discussed. I think it was either IFMU or Silversinksam that started the thread about a wb he made.

I can't answer you question... But when I made a silver base for my blue orb, I side-stepped the issue. I used a proof coin- a coin which is not US currency and had wirt upon it 999 fine... meaning 99.9% pure silver. It cost $5 at a local store.
