I just got grand theft auto III. When i play the music skips and it the game stalls an then works again. But when i ride down a specific area once, it never freezes at that part again. I have another computeri play it on and it works fine on that one.
System specs on the computer with the problem:
Radeon 8500 Agp 64megs ddr ram
Athlon 1.4ghz tb
Asus Mobo a7v333
Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum
512 megs ddr ram
20gigCrapy Hard Drive
52x Creative cd rom drive

Computer it works on:
Dell
P4 1.8ghz
geforce 3 64 megs ddr ram
MOBO?
Sound Card?
510 megs ddr ram
Harddrive? 40 gigs
Cd romdrive?
The game should work with the radeon, right?
Is it that i have a crappy harddrive?

This is a good one. It sounds like an iterrupt conflict to me. You might check to see if you have a card plugged into PCI slot 1. It would conflict with the AGP video card.

You may also be having trouble with the sound card. Try removing it and playing without sound.

Finally, there is a remote chance that your "crappy" hard drive may be missing a beat.

i origiganally used the sound card on the board. But i was having problems with that enabled, so i put the audigy in.

If it skips during driving, it's in their FAQ's to defrag since the game is having a hard time accessing data from the drive fast enough. I would try to defrag and see if that helps.

i defraged it but still no better. I have a 5 year old hdd from an old hp. Could this be the problem. If i replace it with a ata133 80 gig 7200rpm maxtor drive do u think i'l be al set, it's about time to replace it anyways. i will try moving the ethernet card anyways tho.

Perhaps, I can't say for sure though. I run GTA3 on a AMD XP 1800+ @ 1.6GHz, PNY GeForce3 Ti200 @ 250/560 and a Maxtor ATA133 60GB D740X. I have no problem with the game at all. It will usually freeze for a split second while changing radio stations.. I don't know if that's normal though.

i have yet to have a problem with that game except the one time i was sitting in my boat and sniping people with 20 police cars floating around it stuttered for a second then got back going

lol oh man, I gotta try that one...

I usually get up on top of the Casino on Stanton Island (real name), next to the helicopter and snipe from up there... but then the police helicopters come and bother me :p
