Question 128 or 64MB Geforce4?

I need a new video card. I'm looking at the Geforce4 Ti4200 and Ti4400. I like to get atleast 3.6ns ram so i can get a decent overclock on whatever card i get, and i need tv-out. My question is whether another 64MB or ddr is worth $95 at this time or whether it's money better spent to upgrade again in a 12 or 18 months when more games will take advantage or it.

The best prices i can find on pricewatch.

GAINWARD Geforce4 Ti4400 128MB Golden Sample
Memory speed - 3.6ns
total + shipping = $255.00

MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 64MB Titanium Edition
Memory speed - 3.6ns
total + shipping = $159.90

I'll be playing Morrowind, Medal of honor, Jedi Outcast, Warcraft (asap), Doom3 (asap), and NWNs (asap). All fairly complex 3d games.

Thanks for any help

if you care about saving the money my recommendation is for the 4200. its a great performer card and ppl have got it overclocked to the 4400 speed. the 64mb ram is not a problem and you will mostly want a new card when they start not to be enough.
you need a fast system in order to get the improvement any of both cards will give. check that before going into the vcard upgrade.

This is debatable, but I personally think 64 will be enough for a while. Doom 3 I'm sure will be able to make use of all of it, but I don't think that justifies spending a lot more for 64 more megs of ram. A 64 meg GF4 will probably still be able to run Doom 3 if you've got the cpu power to back it up.

I agree w/ Xaeron, the 64mb should suffice for all games coming out in the next year or so.
A lot of it has to do w/ your CPU speed. A Ti4400 on a 1gig system won't be much faster than a GF3 Ti200. The bottleneck is the processor.

Well actually you will see quite a difference between a Ti 4200 and a Ti 200 on a 1 gig system... my bud has a 1.1 gig system with a ti 200 and my ti 4200 is faster although the ti 200 is still really fast.....

If your getting a Titanium geforce4, do not get 64MB of memory. Simply because the geforce4 ti accelerates far passed other existing cards in FSAA and FSAA needs 128MB to fully run smooth at high sampling rates.

You can notice the difference in performance between 64MB and 128MB GF4 Ti cards, so I highly recommend getting the 128MB model.

I got a Gainward GF4 Ti4200 64MB. Gainward has made some of the best cards out there, and this one also happens to be the cheapest GF4 Ti, $154 at Newegg.

To see my 3DMark2001Se score, click the card in my sig. 10,100 from a $154 card, that ain't bad at all. =)

Like I said, it's the cheapest. That was my main concern. 10,000 3DMarks man, anything more is just for show. Think about a year ago, when nobody dreamed of ever getting 8000, even with the most exotic cooling and modification. 10,000 is more than enough to deal with games for a long time, maybe even a full 2 year cycle.
