Post Collected info and resources for those intending to run a Tualatin on BX/Slot1 mobo!

Welcome everybody...! Please post here your links and experience about running a Tualatin cpu on non Tualatin motherboards. Link here anything you think maybe helpfull for those who are gathering information about the Tualatin mod.

Please letīs keep this page as a resources and links page and post your questions in a specific Thread from you describing your system and doubts.

For the do it job, please read the James Anderson article, it has a very good "how to" in practice... I collected down here some of the most interesting posts from our mega giga thread about running a Tualatin in a BX mobo and from some threads outside the forum. (or, slot1 genericly speaking...) It contains many users solutions for many different troubles that came up when trying to run a Tualatin processor in a non Tualatin ready motherboard. It contains info about mobos, slockets that work, modīs, advices, solution to problems and alternative mods to the tradicional ak4-ak26 bridge... Excuse-me for typing errors and if itīs not exactly "beaultifull design" archive, I did not pay attention to it, just to the content... The images are linked to their respective links... And some links will soon be outdated, but the words are there and the oc.com forum "protagonists" have their names in italic before each comment... I bolded some text, thatīs about what I would like to say about that thread and added some comments... I expect this saves you from a 3 day of reading our thread as I made and go directly to the "Cream of the crop". No need to say who do you have to thanks about this info... The "protagonists". Sorry for my english.

Attached goes the ziped html archive to download and read slowly with the info

Here is MY opinion about what should be done "today", and somethings can change with the time and new successfull mods may apper, some even better... Itīs based mostly in the content of our forum (98,5%)

TUALATIN MOD TO SLOT1

 ISOLATE: AN3, AJ3 AND AK4 FROM THE SLOTCKET CONTACT
 VIDPIN MODE THE AK36 (VID4 OR VID25m) WIRING TO AM34 (VSS) AND OR TO AM36 (VID1) OR AL35 (VID0) COUSE THEY ARE ALREADY INTERNALY CONNECTED TO AM34 (VSS...)
 IF YOUR MOBO IS OLDER, NOT THE LATEST BX OR 815 CHIPSETS YOU MAY NEED TO LINK THE AK4 ISOLATED PIN WITH AK26 OR AJ5 OR AN11 TO PROPERLY BOOT OR STABILIZE THE CPU .
 SOME GENERIC SLOTCKETS REQUIRE YOU TO LINK G35 TO G37 BESIDE THE OTHER CONNECTIONS TO BOOT PROPERLY...

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF FAILURE:
Check again the integritiy and eficiency of your wiring conections and insulations, re-do it if necessary. Be carefull with tall wires that prevent the normal cpu pin connection with the socket. Be shure youīve done the right vid pin trick in you case, some tuallys donīt like to boot @2,0v, do not set the voltage to auto, set it manualy (except in newer boards you run the danger of booting at 2,0v or more and...). Investigate other people success with your specificmotherboard and slotcket. There are specific lists with those info and it can be found all over the discussion boards... Disable pbavirus bios alarm, clear CMOS, windows reinstalation (seem not necessary in win9x). If too much instable, change In order queue depth from 8 to 1 in the bios, this will alow a proper boot but have terrible impact on your speed, check your ak4 connections again and experiment other combinations in order to achieve stability without reducing the In order queue depth. Check your mobo version and manual to be shure it can put Vcore lower than 2,0 or 1,8... Some mobos need specific chips (like pll) on it or on the slotcket to work... Some adaptors are and some not proned to achieve success on this mod (ASUS 133DL, ABIT SLOCKETIII and MSI latest versions seem Ok... Generic ones rarely work and SUPERSLOCKETIII from Taiwan/China is an exception).
There are several articles and pages covering the wow-to on practice.... My objective here is just give a theoric "north".
Try and try again sometimes is the key. Thereīs no fix pattern of working on this mod. Be creative! And remember: The risk is yours.

@crilicM@n

PS: the "U" shaped wire trick is fast, easy and secure if you use a litle bit of glue between the holes to fix the wire...

Edit: Corrected the ak26 mistyped ak36 in the 3rd recomendation lines... Sorry. Thanks for telling me (after some hours we get a bit tired and... you know... starts writting....

Photos of generic slotckets that work are welcome.. As there are a lot of people looking for generic slotckets that work, since itīs hard to find the good brand ones in some places of the earth...
When I have the time Iīll post a pick of the generic SUPERSLOCKET III made in Taiwan-China, wich some got to work too... In the archive is another photo from someone...

I like this but I think we should keep that other thread alive. Maybe a sticky is in order? Your link is very good as also your procedures to get it to work! The AK4 to AK26 works but it appears to not always be the best way! Good you pointed that out!

Thread

No, we can still use the other thread, for asking help, as there are so many users subscribed to that thread.... But I had a very painfull time to read all the 760 threads... So I put here some info to help getting there "faster"... 760 is a Biiiiig number... Our Thread is much bigger than the Mad Onion for example (Not saying thereīs not any good info there too...) The place for asking is there (our thread becouse of the big number of subscribers) or in a own new thread if desired... this is just a "stuff and link post... " for a fast reading and direct modding... Off course, begginers should go slowly and ask ask ask before doing something he doesnīt knows if should... (Like bridging ak4 in the back of the slotcket for example...)...

As we know you had tested several Tualatins, including a PIII-T... please feel free to tell your big experience :P and tips... Thaks for passing by!

Oh yes,,, Off course Just mistyped that becouse most modders are trying to use theyre older slot1 mobos wich i think were sold in a bigger numberthan the socket models.... Ahh... regarding the your socket mod :
"By carefully bending the pins back and forth with a tiny screw driver we can break them off. This takes about 5 to 10 minutes each. "
The 3 pins arenīt really needed to the Coppermineīs to operate properly arenīt? (If Iīm not mistunderstood, not...)

you are right, a coppermine will still work without any problem after taking the 3 pins out. I am doing that right now in one of my machines.

Goes without saying, all other bridges have to be removed...

I would like to point you folks at an interesting past project that resembles what is beeing attempted here:

How To Run Dual Pentium 3 Processors On Your BP6 MotherBoard --> http://bp6.gamesquad.net/mod_1.phtml

I very much like the investigative research that went into this project and should serve as a model for us on our tualatin quest.

Because some people are reporting flakieness and/or failure after working awhile with their quick-tualatin-on-BX-fix, it is a good read.

Enjoy!

SuperslocketIII, generic

Thanks for the The Complete Abit BP6 Dual Pentium III Modification guide...

Here I post a pic of the generic SUPERSLOCKETIII , it seems easy to find, especially outside USA where the brand good ones are not availlable and some has been doing the mod successfully with it (LINK G35 TO G37 required) . If someone needs more pics ask me...

Looking up at first post in this thread

TUALATIN MOD TO SLOT1

->
„h SOME GENERIC SLOTCKETS REQUIRE YOU TO LINK G35 TO G37 BESIDE THE OTHER CONNECTIONS TO BOOT PROPERLY...

so it's an additional modification on top of the other ones.
Not necessary for the brand sockets. But with superslocket it seems it is.

Btw. ak4 to ak26 is one option. There are alternatives.
ak4 -> aj5 is one of em. This is a very close pin so easier to do. AN11 s another option.

Btw. acrillicman. In the third point it sez AK4 with AK36.. is that right or a spelling error. (AK26 perhaps?)
Same in "alternative mods to the tradicional ak4-ak36 bridge..."

Excuse-me for typing errors " <- ok.

Relatively easy way of using Tualatin-cpus in older motherboards.
