I’ve been beating up this board for about a week; last couple days, it’s been swinging back.:)
Until a couple days ago, I got an average of about 1 BSOD per day. Last couple days, it’s been more like 5 BSODs a day.
They usually occur when I access a webpage. The error message is usually (not always) IRQ_L
NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and the file affect is usually (not always) NTOSKRNL.exe.
The messages I’ve gotten seem to have little to nothing to do with the actions I was taking. This seems to point to hardware malfunction.
The messages have increased in frequency since I installed Service Pack 1 for Win2K. This seems to point to the OS.
Could be either or both.
Three possibilities:
1. At 150Mhz, some of the chipsets on the mobo are overheating.
2. At 150Mhz, the memory isn’t working quite right.
3. Win2K is subtly messed up.
For the moment, I’ve throttled the FSB back to 133Mhz. If it keeps blowing up, I know Win2K is the likely suspect.
If it stops, then it’s either the chipset or the RAM. Of the two, I suspect the chipset, in which case, it’s active cooling time. If that’s not the case, then we think of something to do with the RAM.
Besides the BSODs, the machine has otherwise functioned perfectly. Well, with one little exception.
When the machine has frozen, turning the power off, then turning it back on has usually led to a non-boot. Pulling the plug for a little bit, then putting it back in led to a normal boot, with previous settings.
Changing multipliers has not been a problem.
