K8L and Quads and All the Rest . . .

There’s been a lot of confusion as to when AMD plans to get 1) K8L processors out and 2) when quadcores will show up.

AMD’s conference call a few days ago cleared much of this up.

  • The first K8L processor will be a quad-core processor.
  • It will debut around the middle of the year.
  • AMD will begin to demonstrate it around the beginning of the year.

A few questions still remain. AMD did not say whether or not a K8 quadcore processor would be released, or indicate
when dual-core K8L processors would be released. It’s probably safe to say that K8L dual-core processors won’t be released
until the middle of the year, but unless AMD is having some real mass production problems, they won’t wait until the beginning
of 2008 to get them out, as some have stated.
