Our Overclockers.com Folding@Home Team has been running member spotlights for quite some time – this is the 83rd feature in our series of Folding Spotlights!

To see the ever growing list of who has been interviewed, see the team SPOTLIGHT list! Now please give a warm welcome to Sneakysnowman!

Dfonda: When did you join the Team?

Sneakysnowman: 09-14-09, 05:34 PM

D: If there was something recent that you did that you wanted your fellow team members to know about, what would it be?

S: Bought 10 GTX260s during the last month to help fend off EVGA for a little while longer. Sadly a EVGA GTX295 died, I am still waiting for it to return from RMA. I’m starting to suspect that they’re sabotaging me !!

D: What Part of the World do you live in, and if you don’t mind telling, what town?

S: Zürich, Switzerland. Lake in the summer, mountains in the winter. It’s pretty sweet here.

D: How did you initially hear about F@H?

S: When the GPU1 client for the x1900xtx was released. Thought it was a nifty idea and tried it out.

D: After starting, why do you continue to Fold?

S: At first I was impressed that you could run a program on your GPU. Also the animation viewer was pretty cool. Then by the time I upgraded to SLI’ed 8800GT, I was addicted.

D: What do you do for a living?

S: Studying Physics at university. In my free time, I do legal work for a local company.

D: What do you do for fun?

S: Gaming. Played a lot of MW2 and Shattered Horizon lately. I also enjoy anything that has to do with water. Swimming, sailing, power-boating. With the mountains around, skiing is also a great weekend activity. Driving down to Italy though the mountains is also great fun.

D: Is there anything special you do in your spare time that you really enjoy?

S: Thanks to lax gun laws spending an afternoon senselessly shooting stuff in the garden always lifts my spirits. Of course there’s also the usual going out, drinking and going to concerts.

D: Time to spill your guts. What are the stats of your main folding rig? Why is it your fave? What all do you use the rig for?

S: My main gaming PC. i7 920 D0 @ 4.0GHz, 3x GTX260. Awesome FPS and PPD! I work on the only PC that isn’t folding. Lenovo R500. I need it to have a long battery life and not burn my lap!

D: Do you have a Borg-Farm(Group of computers)? If so, how many computers, and what are they? (CPU, RAM)

S: I’m running 9 PCs in my folding farm:
i7 920 C0 @ 3.6GHz, 2x GTX260-216, 9800GT | Q9550 @ 4GHz, water cooled, 2x 9800GX2| Phenom II 940 @ 3.6GHz, 3x GTX260-216, 9800GT | Q9300 @ 3.2GHz, 2x GTX260-216 | E8400 @ 4GHz, 2x GTX260-216 | E5200 @ 3.6GHz, GTX260-216 | E5200 @ stock, GTX295, 9800GT, 8800GT (temp until GTX295 comes back from RMA) | T5600 @ 1.83GHz | PS3.
I used to borg other peoples machines, but my friends can’t keep their PCs running consistently enough to be worth it. I need some proper nerd friends.

D: What are your future goals? What do you most want to accomplish with your life?

S: Finish university and get a doctorate in Physics. After that I’ll see. Still a long way to go.

D: If there is something you want to tell the team, then spill your guts! What have I missed in my questions that could help the team learn more about you and who you are?

S: I joined T32 because my old team pretty much died. Folding with the big boys is great and I love it here.

D: A few Pics of your Farm, Hobbies, even you! Etc.

S: It’s surprisingly hard to find a picture of me. Best I could come up with, guy on the left, top of Gotthard Pass. On my wat to Italy with a couple of friends.
