Intel i7-6950X Broadwell-E CPU Review

Today we are going to get a chance to review Intel’s next processor in their High-End Desktop (HEDT) platform. The king of the consumer hill used to be the mighty i7-5960X our friend Dino reviewed back in August of 2014. That ‘extreme’ CPU shook up the landscape then by providing the consumer with a high clocked, octo-core CPU with a total of 16 threads. Since then Intel brought to market their 14 nm Broadwell CPU architecture, on their mainstream platform, through their “tick-tock” cycle. Intel Upcoming 9-series Chipset Won't Support Haswell

Website Xbit Labs reports that upcoming Intel chipsets for mainstream desktop processors will implement support for yet-unnamed “Haswell Refresh” CPU and future Broadwell parts. Other information leaked points to the fact that those new chipsets will not support current Haswell processors, thus effectively making the 8-series motherboards single generation products with no upgrade path. Intel Skylake Comes in 2015, Brings DDR4 and PCI-E 4.0

Some details regarding the successor to upcoming Broadwell CPUs, codenamed Skylake, has emerged with the leak of an alleged presentation slide. Intel’s future CPUs are to feature an all new architecture and a new socket, moving from 1150. Additionally, it will bring DDR4 memory support to the mainstream market, as well as PCI-E 4.0 for increased graphics and system bandwidth. Read More
