Intel has recently released Union Point, the Z270 chipset, for their new desktop CPU lineup. ASUS has taken this opportunity to redefine their motherboard lineup a bit and go back to their ROG roots with the ASUS ROG Maximus IX Apex. The Apex line is made specifically with a eye on overclocking, particularly extreme overclocking, when looking at its feature set. Never fear! Never fear folks, I’m back again after a short break from reviews. Today I bring to the benching stand EVGA’s newest flagship motherboard, the Z270 Classified K. Loaded with features and ready to overclock, this motherboard should be a real winner for our community. Sit down, get comfy, it’s time to dig in.
EVGA has been on the forefront of GPU technology since it came on the scene back in 1999. Fast forward numerous years and accolades later, we come to another turning point, a deeper integration of the GPU with their new iCX Technology. This new integration will help keep cards cool where it needs to be cooled allowing for better control of thermals and fan noise. The first implementation of this technology comes in the form of the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW2 Gaming iCX sporting the new iCX cooler, an evolution of their formidable ACX cooling solution.
Our next Z270 based board we will review is from MSI and is their current flagship board in the MSI Z270 XPower Gaming Titanium. If you remember our review of the Z170 version from way back in 2015, they managed to merge both a quality gaming motherboard, and a very solid overclocking motherboard into one pretty cool Titanium/Silver motherboard. While not much has changed going from Z170 to Z270, we’ll look at some of the features on the board, and make sure it still performs with the rest of them. Grab a soda, sit back, and enjoy!
