ctSPD Memory Readout Utility

SUMMARY: A very handy utility that lists the key parameters of your RAM stick.

Ike apprised me of a utility that ct, the German magazine, has called ctSPD-Speichertest; it’s a RAM Readout utility that enables you to see all the timing data “inside” the RAM stick. It’s very simple – download the utility, install it, run it and it will read out the detailed data.

To show what this thing will do, below you will find screen shots for four different RAM sticks; the last one is a composite of timing data from all four sticks so you can see them side by side.

Your task is to look at the data and figure out which one you would buy, assuming you’re looking for the fastest RAM. As a clue, I have given the chip speeds on each slice below:

When you see an “error”, it means that particular item does not meet the spec, in this case, for PC133. Don’t jump to the answer so quickly – spend a little time looking at the data.
