X1900GT or XT??

Going to upgrade monitor to ViewSonic's 20.1" VX2025wm & am planning to upgrade my gfx card at same time, Screen resolution will be.1680x1050 i guess.

I started looking at PowerColor Radeon X1800 GTO Graphics Card: the Best in Its Class?
but think the availabilyty of these is pretty low, prices have fallen & the X1900 cards are now looking good.

Current thinking is :-
Radeon® X1900 GT 256MB £140.94 OC UK
or
Radeon X1900 XT 512MB£216.14 OC Uk

I'm not a big cutting edge gamer, more strategy & simulations.
Which would be best:-
1) hanging onto the £70 towards a conroe upgrade next year
2) Going for XT instead of GT x1900

x1900xt the x1900gt is like a 7900gt and the x1900xt is like a 7900gtx (slower but pretty close)

Hehe that was my initial reaction , but thinking about it £70($130) is also difference between Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 & E6600 or going for DDR 2 PC8000 instead of DDR PC6400

IM in the same quandry myself right now. The xt is going for 325$ and the gt is going for 205$. I could spend the savings from the videocard on watercooling my cpu. I wonder if there is a terrible amount of performance difference?

Yep it's hard have been comparing
XT - 625 MHz Engine/725 MHz Memory 48 pixel shader processors
GT - 575 MHz Engine/600 MHz Memory 36 pixel shader processors
XT data is from Radeon® X1900 XT 512MB Rest of specs around the same.

buggered if i know waht it means in real terms.

Power looks odd :-
XT = 108.7W
GT= 75W
XT = 145% more power not sure where it goes

The only difference i see is the amount of pipelines. Ive also read that the gt chips are xt chips that didn't make the cut. Who knows. I just leary of spending the extra 120 bucks if i wont notice a difference in performance. I never play any games above 1600x1200. So I dont think I need the absolute best, even though I have a compulsion to buy the faster card. Ive got untill tuesday to decide then im making the plunge!! Probaly end up with the xt just cause I want the better one.

That's also the difference between the 1600 and the 1900...pipelines. They make all the difference in the world. Buying the most expensive video card you can afford is probably more important than anything besides main memory in your machine....

yep i think that's true Ati has used the 520 chips in a number of lower rated cards like the gto version that got me looking in the 1st place. there's also the chance X1900GT Unlock Thread!!! (name change)

Agreed, although there is the argument for the extra shader power of the x1900gt for future (vs the x1800xt 512), but hey, really happy w. my x1800xt 512, for sure

Which one would everyone choose between the All in wonder x1900 or the gt? The all in wonder has 48 pipelines compared to the gt's 36.

All in woders have more pipes but dont clock worth a crap most of the time were as the gt has less pipelines but overclockes better in most cases. Both prob use binned x1900xt cores for now. IMO it comes down to price when determining which to pick but at that price I would get the x1800xt 512 or x1800gto2.

fit in ?? thought i was looking at x19000 Xt v GT.
3)

x1900 XT = 7900GT
x1900XTX = 7900GTX
x1900GT = 7900GS

Though comparisons to nvidia are interesting i don't think atm that nvidia gives the best bang/$ and have narrowed choice down between 2 models x1900GT or XT

off of pricewatch. The 1800xt is priced way too high. I would buy the 1900gt before paying 100$ more for the 1800xt. The all in wonder has the pipelines and can be clocked higher to give it more performance. So for the money the all in wonder looks best for around 200$

the x1800xl pricing is wrong or outdated
