Is there a benchmark that shows 5850 is worth about $100 more over 5750? I would like to replace my current 8800gts (the good one that overclocks with something that will leave card in dust. At best my card can be OC'ed to about 9% over spec at stock voltage.

Or is there something up to $300 that is worth getting over 5850? As I am using P55, Crossfire wouldn't be effective due to limited PCIe bandwidth.

It appears that the 5850 outperforms the 5750 pretty well for the price difference. Twice the GPU score in Vantage.

Well of course, it's got twice the number of shaders and a few more MHz on the core and memory. Should be a little more than 2x as fast if you don't factor in overclocking potential. Not to mention your are comparing a 128-bit memory bus to a 256-bit.

HD 5850:

725MHz x 1440 x 2 = 2.09Tflops
1000MHz x 256-bit x 4 = 128GB/s

HD 5750:

700MHz x 720 x 2 = 1.09Tflops
900MHz x 128-bit x 4 = 57.6GB/s

I personally think that's a great deal for an extra $100.

Here's the question to ask with the current pricing. Are two 5750's better than a single 5850 for the same price?

No, of course not. Two lesser cards in SLI/Xfire will NEVER be better than a single, more powerful GPU. 2x HD 5750s would theoretically be equal to one HD 5850, but would likely consume more power, and because of the scaling and drivers issues that exist with multi-gpu configurations, it would likely score less in games. At the very least it would be a lot more hassle with no benefit.

Yeah it depends if you want multi gpu or single gpu. I've read a few reviews and it looks like 5750CF will beat or equal a 5850.

I had an 8800GT and figured it was about time to upgrade. I just went with the 5850 when it came out for $256 shipped, since I don't want to deal with the hassle that SLI sometimes brings and I usually install some aftermarket cooling that blocks slots so I can overclock safely for a long time.

It looks like in most games it is 10-20 fps higher.

I've decided to go with 5850, it costs a bit more than 2x 5750 but at a lot less power (from PSU) and I can add a second 5850 at a later date. 5850CF would burn any 5750's and I doubt P55 would ever support quad CF.
