What do you guy's think??? The Gigabyte GA-6VXDC7 with two 1.0GHz Pent.3's or a Epox 8K7A+ with a 1.4GHz Athlon for a graphic workstation.

I will have both except my P3s will be on a VP6 instead. Have to ship my other, dead P3 1GHz off for Intel to replace.

If that's all you do with it and they are super large image files then the dual P3s will rock with Photoshop.

Yeah, like Jon said, a dual P3 box will perform better for certain functions and the AMD 1.4 single for others... I use a dual P2 400 box at work and it's way better when I am running a zillion things at once (as I frequently am at work) including Folding, but it would have an absolutely cruddy framerate on any of the games I play (and not just cuz it has a CAD oriented video card either. It wouldn't be much better even with a Geforce). My 1 GHz Tbird outperforms in single apps, but isn't as hot with multiple things or in intensive apps that utilize dual processors. So it's all in what you want to do. Pick a box that suits your computing style.

(personally I'd wait for the Morgans/desktop Palominos and a decent dual socket A board)
(dual Morgans are gonna RAWK!!!)

If you want a better deal for the price definatly get the Althon 1.4
Pentium **** is a F***ing joke when it comes to prices. Plus the pentium 3 processors are old news and overclocking the amd is cake walk.

dude id remove the f word from that post before an admin comes in and does it for you.....besides p3s arent that bad...:)

Hummm.....Did I do that??? Nawww....not me......can I remove that f word...Oh well hope I don't get into trouble....

I would go with the 1.4 Athlon. Even when you use intense apps. The 1.4 has the power of two PIII's. If you use dual CPU's the apps must be able to use them. Very few desktop apps can do that. Some apps also suck with two CPU's, due to poor multithread management. Too much context switching. Besides you will find the small cache of normal PIII and only SDRAM is a bit cripling. Ever wondered why Intel sell XEONs with BIG caches on server and can charge a BIG premium for them.

WHich OS are you going to use? NT/2000/Linux? If you have the oppertunity run the apps you want on a dual CPU machine and see how active both CPU's are. Also check for context switching on multithreaded apps.

Have been looking at the Iwill DVD266-R mobo...it uses DDR memory and I have read several good reviews on this mobo and it is much cheaper than a Athlon MP Tyan Thunder dual processor mobo...As a graphics workstation alot of the Adobe Progams are dual processor enhanced...What to do???

virtually any high-end adobe program (pagemaker, photoshop, premiere) is going to run better on dual processors... they don't perform badly by any means on an Athlon 1.4, but there is a significant difference between single and dual processor performance with those programs...

i would recomend getting AMD at all costs get one of those new MObos for 2 cpus there realy verstial......i think it was tomshardware....but they got 2 reg athlons working and even durons MP and it was soo stable it even worked at uneven clock speeds...now tahts the way to get best of both worlds overlcock a duron to a nice speed Price cant be beat and u also have MP durons when u need it.

Welcome to the forums.

I would edit this if I were you, BobbyDigital. If you haven't noticed (I can understand if you haven't) there has been a lot of discussion about language in the G.D. folder and it's always been the OC.com policy to keep this a clean, "family" environment. Please edit your post and keep this in mind for the future.
