Ok well i was with my friend and he asked me about computers because he wanted to buy one and he said he was looking in the apple store
I told him windows was way cheaper for better specs and its cheapest to build your own so he asked me to build one for him
he told me his budget was 1000 and he said he can go a little higher if need be
It is completely from scratch
he doesnt have a monitor and he doesnt need a keyboard/mouse or speakers

we only decided on these so far

if there are better options or it is to expensive for his budget feel free to say
he doesnt want a small monitor because he said its hard for him to see when its small
This may be a hackintosh but most likely windows (I already have an os so dont include in price)
This still needs a hard drive, motherboard, psu (preferably corsair:thup:) and graphics card (doesnt matter maybe nvidia he is not really a gamer but he is likely to do some gaming)

Here's an AMD build I've been toying around with recently that comes in close to your price range, throw in the monitor, a HDD, a disc drive, and a copy of Win7 and you are just about there. Keep in mind the included air cooling bits are a tad overboard so you can probably cost cut there some if needed.

Keep in mind I'm relatively new at this so I can't really back it up, it's just what I would build for a grand. I'm sure the vets on here can tell you if I'm steering you in a good direction or not.

Well if he is not going to Game that much i would go with a Intel sandy bridge solution.

Hard drives-Up to you on the space
SSD- if you have enough money i would invest in this a 120gb+ drive should do him fine

(lol i stole some of these parts from the above build) If you do want a cpu cooler i would go with the hyper 212.

^ that 6870 is over kill for not gaming you could save some money by going with a 6770 or some thing like that but the 6870 should be able to play most games at medium-high settings

Oops, missed the part about not gaming much.

Yeah go with an XFX Radeon 6770 then, I have one and they haul *** for the price.

The i3 sandy bridge is also a solid bet, though I like AMD myself so personally I'd still get the FX-4100, or a Phenom.

As far as the CPU cooler goes(if you even decide to get one) I just used the noctua based on its reputation and the fact that Newegg has it. For less money you could look for a Titan Fenrir. Mine keeps things nice and chilly and it looks damn good doin it.

yea but isn't the 7770 expensive? i mean compared to the 6770 and him not doing any gaming so i believe that he should do fine but why did you say the 7770 (just so i know the thought process)

The noctua's are expensive and the hyper 212 IS AMAZING it does it's job for only $20 dollars and even then i would recommend going with a true spirit 140 just because of price vs performance

6770 = $110+
7770 = $150+

So yeah there is a difference in cost there. He is doing SOME gaming and the 7770 is faster, by a fair amount over the 6770. The 7770 also uses less power. If cost is a concern, Try the 7750 as I believe it matches or beats a 6770 for performance.

Also, you can use the EDIT post function to add to posts. ;)

I see what you mean, that CM cooler looks pretty legit for the price, though all of this is rather moot the more I think about it lol. He really has no need for a cooler unless he plans to overclock, and even then choice of cooler would more come down to just how much he plans to overclock and how general airflow in the case is...(though if it's like my Antec 200, probably not great without every fan slot filled.)

Ok well i was with my friend and he asked me about computers because he wanted to buy one and he said he was looking in the apple store

Apples aren't bad computer. Ridiculously overpriced, yes, but good luck finding something else in the premade market that can match the build quality of Apple. Their buisness theory might be to slightly brainwash consumers with good advertising and screw them over in price...but it works. :p

Either way, he doesn't need anywhere near $1000 if he's not planning on gaming. Personally, I'd go with a bit cheaper build, but then get the things that will make a difference to him (a SSD to make the computer seem very fast, make the build extremely small, a bigger monitor, etc.)

Mini-ITX (you can fit this in a backpack), 27" monitor, 1TB of storage and a 120GB SSD.

^^^ also a great idea, basically build yourself a super-powered windows equivalent of a Mac Mini. Though keep in mind you need to add another $100 or so for a copy of Win7.

That and having the SSD to be the OS Drive will make it fast as all hell.

Welp, I earn a failing grade for reading posts today.

Anyways either of these sort of builds would do the trick for your buddy. The mid-tower arrangement leaves room for future flexibility, but the mini-itx build is pretty unique and cool, especially for someone who is not interested in PC building as a hobby(I'm assuming that's the case with your friend?)

Or you can always get this i7-2600k, Z68 kit for $649....Then add Windows 7 and a 22" monitor and keyboard and mouse...

Yeah, I'd have a look at some barebone kits...

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...m_re=TLC-_-Header Banner-_-Barebones_B96-1373

- that one even has a video card so just grab a monitor and maybe a different power supply if you want. Since it's well below the $1000 threshold, you could add in a nice screen or two. :D

Those both have meh motherboards, which I guess isn't very important if he isn't overclocking, but both those PSUs scare me, especially the second one...

Barebone kits seem like great deals, but they almost always cheap out on something.

Sigh, why oh why do you keep coming up with builds that make me want to spend more money Knufure? :-/

I don't NEED a 4th computer..... You're a bad influence on me mate.... I may have to think about that 4th computer..... I'm thinking a TJ08-E would be nice.... :p

Ok i know its been awhile how about these parts and i found out he isnt going to be gaming much or even at all just a normal computer
his budget is $1000-1200 now

is the processor overkill for non gamer?
other posts said 8gb of ram but that is overkill for non gamer right?

should i go for a lower i5 or an i3 or go back to the i5 2500k for the processor also is that a good psu for the graphics card?
