$1600 - What to do?

Looking for a machine qualified for gaming, 15" - 17", 3 hours battery, Core Duo. This is for afriend, and I would prefer to a bare-bone system. Suggestons?

Possibilities:
Asus S/Z96j
Compal HEL80
Sager

I would honestly chose a DELL XPS, or a Hp something, over a Asus.
