you either go toshiba, or dell, in my opinion. those are the only 2 brands i recommend really. and what are you going to be using it for... ? hm.. a laptop for 1 grand... i'm sure both toshiba and dell both have a 999 model...

Yea, toshiba and dell are good. Also maybe look at compaq or some of those home-brand ones can actually be quite good!!!!

(Note with compaq- beware of dodgy customer service)

I have a Toshiba 3005 with a P3 1.13 (paid $1700 for it, but I'm sure something equivalent is around $1000 now).

The laptop's pretty nice overall. I guess the only complaint I have is that the fan is a little loud when I'm running Prime.

One recommendation I'll make is to get one with a built-in CD-RW drive. You'll be glad you have it some days.

well if you want true quality do with a Dell, but they are more pricy than other but will always rule. my Dell P4 kicks the pants off of my dad's Toshiba P4. and get the Dell UltraSharp screen, it KICKS ***. Sony Viao's are ok but io have heared of some of them having problems. and compaq...man don't touch em! and remember get a good warenty and dont void it, with laptops it's always a good thing to have.
