2.4c Arrived today and ready to go in the IS7

Well, now that I took out the 2.4b chip and put this 2.4 800fsb chip in, what should I have bios options set to? Something like:

NB Strap = 800?
dram = 5:4
agp = fixed

mem = by spd

And just start upping the fsb till I hit a ceiling? I'm not sure as to where I should end up around as this thing is a little different than my sl6rz 2.4 which ended up at 1:1 and 200fsb on this IS7.

Any suggestion? I'll try them all, just post away!
 
Well not too good so far :( I can't even get 250fsb stabe yet. Running it at 250fsb, mem is at 5:4, agp/pci is fixed at 66/33. I have agp voltage @ 1.65 and mem voltage @ 2.8. Advanced chipset settings are set to by spd. Not sure what to try next. I have tried the voltage at stock and @ 1.75, seems to get worse(prime crashes on first run) if I up the voltage. My chip markings are as follows:

Any suggestions? I have to run out for an hour so I'm going to prime it @ 1.75V and everything else at default(ewww I know) till I get back and try again.
 
With such great temps and strong voltages applied it looks like at least one piece of your hardware does not want to play along. It's most likely the CPU or the mainboard, but to make sure you could try removing all but the most essential devices (HD, videocard) to eliminate the scenario that a possible AGP/PCI lock bug spoils things.
Furthermore, you could change the ram timing settings to their most relaxed settings to exclude the possibility that the mainboard is unable to handle potentially strict SPD settings.

If that does not improve anything, the only way to pinpoint the culprit would be to switch CPU or mainboard...
 
Yeah, can't figure this out yet. I ran all the same hardware with the 2.4b and it ran great but yeah that was at 200, this is at 250.. The only pci card I have in it is my audigy 2, but I can pull that and try it again. I tried the highest(most relaxed ) settings on the mem.

I tried all different mem volts and agp volts, and still nothing. I reverted back to 4x agp in the bios, still no go. I'm tempted to get an asus cwood board to try it in, then again I was just going to get a 2.6 and give this board another try.

I have my mem sticks in slots 1 and 3. Should I move them to 2 and 4 or just try it with one stick? I figure I'm almost running out of things to try, then time to chalk it up to a poor yeild chip maybe?
 
I think it's your motherboard.

I think that you've reached the maximum FSB where your motherboard wants to run at.

I think I'm having the same problem.

I got a 2.6 in running 255 FSB on a IC7-G. The CPU seems to run strong. Running at default 1.488v.

I try 256 FSB and it barely boots, no matter what voltage I give it. I even tried 1.75v. Usually, you'd be able to get some slight increase as you increase the voltage, but I'm hitting a brick wall.

I wish I had another Canterwood to test this chip on.

I'm almost done testing and going to post results soon.

My recommendation...try another motherboard out.
 
hipro5 - I tried that at 250fsb and it gave me an agp speed of 124 and a pci speed of 60 = no post :(

JuniorESQ- I think you might be right. I took my sound card out everything onboard disabled, still no go. I've been so spoiled with oc'ing lately, so I can't tell if it's a cpu just not able to do it, or still an issue with this board. Maybe a bios update might fix it?

Did notice when I have the agp set to auto, I think at 250 it defaults to 7:2:1, it should be around 70 on the agp, but when I restart the comp, it reads 75? Seems there might still be an issue that maybe a bios update could fix?

I wonder if this has anything to do with that anti-overclocking mechanism Intel was working on?
 
This would suck if so, but I'm hoping not. I have an IT7 Max 2 v2. Think I should try it on that board and see what kind of fsb I can reach on it? I'll just put in a single stick if so.
 
Feel free to mail the CPU to me (insured of course) and I'll try it on my IC7 system. I promise to I'll send it back after I torture it... er... I mean... after I test it.
 
your only problem is the memory. absolutly.
near 500ddr with only 2.8v vdimm should not go, with lower timings too.
try a slower divisor.

we need vga-chips on the mem-sticks. :D

Well, I just read an article at [H] where they said they got a 2.4c up to 3.3 with a 275MHz bus. So, hopefully they will be able to go higher generally.
 
Well one thing I didn't try yet was single channel on the IS7. That is about the last thing I can think of before investing in more hardware. I'll give that a shot when I get home and see what happens.

Rio- I tried 5:4 and 3:2 and the slowest mem timings offered, and still no go :(

With 1:1 timings and memory at 2.5 I can boot @ 225fsb(450ddr) but 230fsb(460ddr) won't post. I just tried this to see where the limit was on my memory. I don't think it's a memory speed issue but more of a timing issue maybe? Maybe dual channel is the culprit?
