2.5 on an amd xp or barton with air

Out of the following 3 cpu's which would you get to try for 2.5

2100 from newegg = $73
2500 from newegg = $93
1700 DLT3C excaliber = $72


or is there any other cpu that you would reccomend for this task I'am thinking maybe a 2400 or 2600 might be able to complete the task but not sure on which to get or what stepping for the 2400 or 2600.


P.S. I know this is asked everyday (what cpu for me ) but I've gone thru 3 different chip's and still have yet to hit 2.5 stable with good voltage-temp. I'am @ my my max good overclock with my 2100 now.

I would try another 1700 or another 2100...I know how many you have gone through, but I don't think the 2500 has much promise in getting to 2.5. Good luck man.

I am currently running the Barton 2500+ and thus far I had better results with my 2100+ Aiuhb 0302, I got that to 2500, but was able to get it stable at 2400 @ 1.85 volts, I really didn't want to go beyond that but I am confident with more 2.5 would have been very possible.

Barton at 2.4 GHz will beat the 1700+ at 2.5 GHz on overall performance due to larger L2 cache.

Also Barton consumes less power for the same Vcore at high level of overclocking, and should be less sensitive to Vcore and temp at high level of overclocking. I posted the details about this argument in another thread.

But the 1700+ is still a better deal for the price.

Why did I see that coming I have had a DLT3C before and didn't get very good result's so because of that I'am kinda affraid that I might get another poor overclocker if I go with a 1700 again.


I'am fully aware 2.4 xp=2.3 barton but I want 2.5 which chip doesn't matter and I'am going to be using air only so this might be a hard goal but if I have to buy a chip once a month to find her I will.

I went with the 2100+. With the price cuts this week, I'd go with the Barton though.

We hit 2400 stable with 256 m 2100 ram, water cooled proc and a lousy 300w p/s that is weak on the 5volt and 3.3v. Since we added: new ocz 3500 mem(2X256 dual channel) antec 400w ps and are putting a 226 w peltier on a maze2 waterblock. We are hoping to hit that number 2500!! Wish us a lotta luck! let ya know what happens soon.
