Hey guys I'm thinking about purchasing the Corsair Obsidian 550D as it's currently on sale on Newegg for ~$110 and it's pretty much everything I desire in a case. I want to know if there's adequate room in there for a 2 loop setup with enough rads to adequately cool my GPU/CPU? And perhaps a second GPU in the future?
So I'm thinking about going with some loops for watercooling instead of my current Corsair h80. Mainly the reason for this is because I would like to cool my GPU as it's running a consistent 75C which I've read is where it will begin to limit itself to prevent it from overheating. I assume this is partly or mostly to blame due to running 3-monitors through it.
I run at stock speeds because I've been told even with adequate cooling, overclocking a CPU can shorten it's lifetime. My CPU temps never really break 45C, not sure if that's good or bad, could have something screwed up as far as enough thermal paste or the h80 not mounted properly. Now since the CPU on my h80 seems to be okay, and I don't OC because I'm afraid of damaging the CPU. Should I just setup a loop for the GPU and leave the CPU with the H80?
My current setup is:
NZXT H2 White
ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE LGA 1155 Intel Z77
Intel Core i7-3770k
EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW
CORSAIR Vengeance 16gb DDR3 1600 2x8GB
Corsair HX 1000w
3x HDDs, 2x Force 3 SSDs. (Going to relocate one of the HDDs to a media computer, possibly two.)
DVD burner.
So what I'm thinking of doing is moving over to a Corsair 550D as the case seems in general to have pretty much everything I desire in a case(except being pretty much a fully metal exterior.) One of the bigger reasons I like it is the magnetic fan covers which I don't really see elsewhere, which just seem like it'd make for cleaning my computer a lot quicker. I'm completely up to suggestions on other cases, however I'm not a big fan of windows on the side. I don't have any idea how to get the RAD setup to work, I see people mounting their RADs on the rear of their case which I feel like just seems like a bad idea, not to mention unsightly, however I'm unsure how they really mount them and how stable they are. Everything I've seen looks fairly flimsy.
My concern with the 550D is lack of space inside. I've been looking at the XSPC Acrylic Dual 5.25 Reservoir for Two Laing DDCs for my reservoir, as it'd only take up 2 drive bays I don't plan on using anyways, so this just seems like the best option for limited space, however on a lot of the really nice professional builds(murderbox builds are really my favorites) they use cylindrical reservoirs, so are there performance losses going with the type of reservoir that I'm looking at?
I currently haven't done much research into pumps so I'm fairly undecided on what I'm going with there, I assume with that reservoir I'll need to purchase 2 Laing DDCs but it seems like there are several different ones so I'll definitely look into more information regarding that. I'll be purchasing most of my stuff through XS-PC, and EK as from what I've seen they appear to be fairly high-quality.
